Аннотация

The social inequality is one of the central issues of sociological studies and the most urgent in contemporary society. It has both social and biological (evolutionary) origin. The biologist revealed the differences in the architecture and functioning of the human brain among individuals of different socioeconomic status. They have also demonstrated that evolved behavioral and mental adaptations for navigating social hierarchy have an impact on the origin and maintenance of social inequality. These results can be applied to traditional issues of the sociology of social stratification and social inequality — distribution of people in the system of material inequality, social categorization, life chances, antagonistic conflicts, cultural and historical variations in social stratification, and the process of emancipation. Nevertheless, at the current stage of the development of both natural and social sciences the integration of the ideas on neurobiological mechanisms of hierarchical social relations with sociological conceptions looks more like a project for the future. Based on such conclusion, the author explores the most promising and sociologically relevant biosociological approaches to social inequality and formulates arguments in defense of such research.
