Abstract

The article focuses on the evolution of the family. We have identified three family types: traditional, child-centered and conjugal. The first lasted from the Roman Ages to the XVII century, to the works of such philosophers as John Locke and Renй Descartes, and from the XVIII century it was replaced by the Age of Childhood, as F. Aries put it, that lasted for nearly two centuries. And only in the XX century it changed to conjugal type (or modernist), prevalent in the Age of risk – to borrow U. Beck's expression. The wide distribution of contraceptives is among those factors, which led to the new position and emancipation of women in this period.
