Why Do Parents Prefer Ethnic School for their Children?

Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of the demand for ethno-cultural curriculum on the example of an urban school in the Udmurt Republic which has a program in Udmurt language and culture. The survey reveals basic characteristics by which parents evaluate the educational potential of schools with ethno-cultural component. The author comes to the conclusion that parents appreciate the existence of schools with ethno-cultural curriculum. However, they assess the quality of education in terms of general characteristics, such as exam scores and a good knowledge of the children.
