Abstract

This article offers a review of the concepts of fashion production in contemporary sociology. Among them are the concepts of fashion as field by Pierre Bourdieu, fashion as cultural industry by Angela McRobbie, fashion market by Patrick Aspers, institutional approach to fashion by Yuniya Kawamura and fashion as aesthetic market by Joanne Entwistle. The review discusses theoretical foundations of the concepts, key categories, key ideas and sociocultural context in which these concepts emerged. The review allows to understand what kinds of questions can be posed and answered with the use of the discussed concepts.
