“The Town of Dream”: Culture and Atmosphere as Resources for the City Image (оn the Example of the Southern German Town of Bamberg)

Abstract

The article considers the city image as a construction created in the conditions of cities competition in the tourist market and shows what resources are used by urban marketing in south-German city of Bamberg to create an ideal tourist destination. The main research question is whether the same points are reflected in the logic of everyday perception of Bamberg by its inhabitants? Do they play an equally important role in the positive assessment of the town and in choosing it as a place of residence and education or in self-identification with Bamberg?
