В данной работе изучались процессы социального конструирования проблемы наркотиков в петербургской прессе в 1997-2003 гг. Было выяснено, что, начиная с 2001 г. интерес прессы к проблеме наркотиков продолжает падать и находится сейчас примерно на уровне 1998 г. Кроме того, дискурс прессы анализировался на предмет соответствия моральной панике, то есть преувеличенной реакции на какое-либо негативное явление и демонизации тех, кто был признан персонально ответственным за сложившуюся ситуацию. Исследование показало, что, несмотря на то, что в Санкт-Петербурге наблюдалось стремление СМИ представить положение как катастрофическое, квалифицировать ситуацию как моральную панику не представляется возможным, так как отсутствовал один из важнейших ее компонентов -- конструирование образа «народного дьявола», или демонизация наркозависимых.
