INFLUENCE OF THE TYPE OF RELIGIOSITY ON THE ATTITUDE TO THE TRADITIONAL FAMILY

Abstract. When characterizing the modern traditional Dagestan family, the process of its transformation, as well as the crisis phenomena in this area, it is important to study the influence of the type of religiosity on the family behavior of the peoples of Dagestan. In 2016 the author conducted a descriptive sociological study of the traditional Dagestan family focusing on the factors of its destruction and development. 1323 people were interviewed by means of a mass standardized questionnaire. The author examined the attitude towards the polygamy institute widespread in modern Dagestan society, the significance of religious affiliations in the making of respondents' own marriage and the marriage of their children, attitudes toward civil marriage.

The results of the sociological survey show the importance of the religious affiliation of the marriage partner. Most of the women interviewed as well as those interviewed from the groups of "hesitant", "non-believers" and "convinced non-believers" demonstrated a negative attitude towards polygamy: this phenomenon was defined by them as "immoral", threatening the destruction of a traditional family. The study showed that the confessional identity of Dagestanis is closely related to their ethnic identity, moreover, one can observe the formation of ethno-confessional identification. At the same time, religious identity, being in interrelation with the ethnic one, is practically not the subject of choice. This fact explains the negative attitude towards the inter-confessional marriages by Dagestanis, manifested primarily by subgroups that are religiously "convinced believers" and "believers". The author demonstrates that the respondents designate polygamy as a "relic of the past" and the internet site "I am looking for a second wife" as able to further strengthen the transformation processes of the traditional family. However, the positions that justify this phenomenon are also present among respondents.
